The North Carolina Utilities Commission, in the wake of the Hurricane Matthew tragedy, warns consumers to avoid hiring movers who schedule or perform moves of household goods (HHG) without proper authority from the Commission. Commission-certified HHG movers must submit criminal history record checks to the Commission and provide evidence of three kinds of insurance coverage – vehicle, cargo, and general liability insurance.

North Carolina Utilities Commission Conditionally Lifts Disconnection Moratorium for Public Utilities and Allows Collection of Arrearages Pursuant to Special Repayment Plans
Public Staff Consolidates Electric and Natural Gas Divisions to Create Energy Division
Effective August 3, 2020, the Electric Division and Natural Gas Division of the Public Staff was consolidated into a newly created Public Staff Energy Division. As the energy landscape across North Carolina continues to evolve, the new structure will better position the Public Staff to represent the using and consuming public by combining the separate areas of expertise into a larger and more diversified division.
The requirement to file additional paper copies of electronically filed documents with the Commission is suspended pending further order of the Commission.
